MS-DOS continued to be released as a separate product to windows until 1994 with MS-DOS 6.22, when Windows 95 shipped with DOS 7.
In 2001 Microsoft announced it was stopping development of the versions of windows that ran on DOS and focusing on those versions designed to run on the Windows NT kernel.
